Blood Pressure
Force against the walls of blood vessels that is made by the blood, called blood pressure. Blood pressure is caused by force which the ventricles contract. The blood pressure decreases when it farther away from the heart because the force of blood is lower.
Higher pressure- Arteries near the heart.
Lower pressure- Arteries farther away from the heart.
To measure blood pressure, we use an instrument called sphygmomanometer. Wrapping a cuff around upper arm, so air is pumped into the cuff to stop the flow of blood in artery. Examiner listens to the pulse and records two numbers. The numbers are expressed as millimeter of mercury. First number is when heart`s ventricles contract and pump blood into the arteries. Second number is when heart`s ventricles relax. This is expressed as fraction first number over second number. Healthy people have 120/80 or lower.
