Red Blood Cells
Red Blood Cells carries oxygen in the lungs and deliver it to cells in the body. It is produced in bone marrow. Their pinched shape give them flexibility, so they can squeeze through narrow capillaries.
Red Blood Cells are mostly made out of hemoglobin (iron-containing protein) which connects chemically with oxygen. If hemoglobin combines with oxygen, it turns into bright red. If they don`t include oxygen it is dark red.
Leave the heart- Bright red because they have oxygen.
Return to heart- Dark red because they give oxygen to cell.
Hemoglobin picks up oxygen in lung and give it to cell when blood reaches capillaries. They also pick up some of the carbon dioxide and carries it to lung.
Red blood cell live about 120 days because they don`t have nuclei, so they can`t reproduce or repair. Still, they make new red blood cell at same rate.
