Blood Types
They have 4 types of blood types, A, B, AB, and O. Blood types differ by proteins called maker molecules, which maker molecules are with red blood cells.
Blood type A- A maker
Blood type B- B maker
Blood type AB- A and B maker
Blood type O- neither A nor B maker
In plasma they contain clumping proteins which they recognize red blood cells with other maker (not yours) and clump those cells together.
EX. Blood type A have clumping protein anti- B, so if you receive transfusion of type B blood, the clumping proteins makes type B blood clump together.
The make molecules on red blood cells determine the cell type and cell type which can receive safely in transfusion.
They have one more proteins called Rh factor. If Rh factor is positive, you have Rh factor. If Rh factor is negative, lack the maker on the cell. If you have Rh negative and received Rh positive blood, it makes Rh clumping proteins, which is really dangerous.
